About the Performer

Stephen Fry is an English actor, screenwriter, author, playwright, journalist, poet, comedian, television presenter, film director, and all-around national treasure.
Notable acting roles include his award-winning performance in Wilde, his iconic projects with Hugh Laurie such as A Bit of Fry and Laurie, Jeeves and Wooster, and Blackadder, and his memorable turns in blockbuster projects V for Vendetta, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, and The Hobbit series.
His recent television credits include The Dropout for Hulu and The Sandman for Netflix. He can next be seen in the Netflix project Everything Now and season 3 of Apple’s The Morning Show.
Stephen recently wrapped shooting the European feature film Iron Box opposite Lena Dunham, directed by Julia Von Heinz.
As a proudly out gay man, he leads the award-winning Stephen Fry: Out There, which documents the lives of lesbian, bisexual, gay, and transgender people around the world as part of his thirty-year advocacy of the rights of the LGBT community.

Love Stephen Fry

Have always loved Harry Potter! have always loved this Stephen Fry version but could never get it. Respect to Jim Dale, but truly my favorite is the Stephen Fry version so excited to do all the rest of the books happy face happy face, clap clap clap lol

Masterful narration, as well expected

Off to buy book two narrated by Mr. Fry. Brilliant, I actually enjoyed this audiobook as much as the movie.

Not Jim Dale

*from a self proclaimed HP audio pro who has listened to the US HP fully thru over 20 times* The books are obviously as good as they ever were but if you're curious if Stephen does it better, he doesn't. obviously this is just my opinion but Jim Dale brings life to each character. you never need to wonder who he is portraying because he does the voices so well. Stephen lacks that. Outside of Hagrid and Dumbledore I find Stephen flat and posh on every character. still worth a listen. but Jim Dale is superior
I don't know why everyone on here says this was so good relativel to Jim dale either.

Heard it before and love the variety between Dale snd Fry!

Realluy enjoyed this as I had heard Fry do the stories earlier and I guess I thought “they were lost”. But they’re not! I love the HP stories, always have. This just makes it easier to listen again (for the thousanth time).

The Story is as good as it usually is, it's just a tad different not hearing Jim. Stephen Fry was great don't get me wrong, it's just Jim nailed it.

Different, but in a great way

Some emotions were lost in Jim Dale's reading, to which Fry hits the mark better. The voices were good, especially the centaurs, but I do miss Dale's McGonagall voice.
Still a great story, and I think both readers have their merits. I'm definitely enjoying the differences between the two.

Stephen Fry can read US Federal tax law to me.

Let me start with this: I love Stephen Fry's voice. It's rich, the tones are cultured and emotive, and his performance in everything I've seen (or heard) him in have been wonderful. I have Jim Dale's narration of this (also reviewed with high marks), but when Fry's narration became available, well, I know where my next 7 credits are going.
The story itself is entertaining, and yes, fun. There are some things in the text that have me cringe today, due to Ms. Rowling's public actions, but within the context of the story, it's logical and consistent.
The sound quality of the playback is excellent, as well (I have noticed on some other audiobooks, I can hear the narrator turn the page or drop the page off the reading rack. There is no such sound on this recording).
